About Us
Improving Access to Minimally Invasive Surgery
Founded in January 2023, Loresa is a groundbreaking initiative under NLC Health Ventures, focused on revolutionizing surgical care in emerging markets. Recognizing the profound need for minimally invasive and safer surgical procedures, Loresa focuses on areas with poor sanitation, limited diagnostic imaging, fewer hospital beds, and higher rates of hemorrhage and infections. These factors contribute significantly to surgical morbidity and mortality, particularly in lower-middle-income countries (LMICs), where 9 out of 10 people lack access to safe and essential surgery.
Today, 5 billion people lack access to safe and essential surgery and the majority are in LMICs resulting in at least 1.5 million deaths each year and over $12 trillion in lost economic output by the year 2030 through surgical diseases.( Source: The Lancet ) In most rural facilities, open surgery (laparotomy) remains the primary method for abdominal surgeries, despite its numerous drawbacks. Laparoscopy, or keyhole surgery, offers a less invasive alternative but requires significant investment in equipment and trained personnel, making it inaccessible to the majority of the world's population in LMICs.
Our Vison
We envision a world where safer surgery is accessible to all, everywhere.
Our Mission
To improve access to minimally invasive abdominal surgery by eliminating the need for insufflation in resource-limited settings. With our flagship gasless laparoscopy retractor (RAIS), we’re turning the tables on traditional surgery, empowering surgeons in resource-limited settings to achieve remarkable results without insufflation. Our approach not only enhances surgical outcomes but also addresses critical issues associated with open surgery, such as extensive cuts, increased bleeding, pain, longer recovery times, and higher infection risks.
About Us
The Future of Safer Surgery
At Loresa, we're committed to expanding access to affordable, minimally invasive surgery. Building on the success of our flagship RAIS device, we plan to introduce a range of cost-effective surgical tools designed for low-resource settings. Our goal is to enhance the reach and affordability of high-quality surgical care where it's needed most. We invite collaborators to join us in this mission and drive innovation in frugal surgical solutions. Contact us to explore partnership opportunities.
